Platonic Solids and Failed Platonics,
1992

Frances Whitehead

This work exists in the attenuated space between art and nature, between idealism and mortality. The full ripe forms of the Platonic Solids reify the fruition of the feminine life force as it transcends the resistence of the abstract masculine dogmatic frames. These same abstract ideals are cages and extinquishers of life in the Failed Platonics. In the failures both the withered gourds and the wire templates are pitiful, while the successful examples exhibit the appearance of new forms through the balance of opposing forces.
